Her bag’s packed, hidden under their bed. Stashed inside is money, a ticket and pretty red heels.
Any day now.
Any day.
Decades later, sorting her things, I’ll find her dusty suitcase next to a shoe box
filled with photographs of me.

Oh, who might me be? Child? Spouse? An Unrequited love? Possibilities.

Red heels make me think she is vivacious, maybe not ready to let go of her previous life. The box of photographs speak of memories of a life together. That’s worth staying for. 🙂

Yes, the red heels are a great detail.

Thank you. I wanted there to be a relation to pretty red heels in her present that ended up as just a shoe box later on. (The shoe box was what was left of her wish to leave and held her reasons for staying. Or is that pretty obvious? Stop explaining, Amy! :))

I see her as vivacious, and as a dreamer. It’s interesting what we dream or want for ourselves when we are younger vs. the life and decisions we really end up making.

It’s very tough settling on a major life decision. I think you captured it very well.

I really felt those pangs of regret and “what if” while reading this. Very intriguing.

I’m glad some of those emotions came through.

The ‘what if’ of a moment was given up for a lifetime. A touching tale indeed.
